Last night I had a dream
I dreamt of the truth
And the way life goes
And the way it finally ends.

I dreamt I rode a horse
As white as the snow
Down to the crossroads
And I met Death there.

Death was faceless in a gown like a shroud
Scythe in hard, skinless, narrow hand
In fear and terror and red-hot hatred
I kicked Death from its steed.

But as I crunched bones beneath
My snowy horse's hooves
A new Death sprang into being
And I knew that Death never dies.

Yeah, I know that Death never dies
And I know Death comes to those who wait
So I set off at a frantic pace
Eternal oblivion hot on my heels.

I cut through forest
And crossed over mountains
And when it looked like all hope had gone
I ran into a shining angel.

This angel was glittering and golden
Bejewelled and tantalisingly sparkling
Held a golden finger to her silent lips
And told me to pass behind her.

And so I passed beyond her
Into a clearing among a grove of trees
Saw the miracle of new life
An infant clutched to a mother's breast.

And I knew that shining angel
Glittering and golden
I knew that shining angel
To be the angel of birth.

And I knew God to be in heaven high
And I knew the devils and demons
To be relegated to their sulphur pits
And I knew that's the way
That things are meant to be.

And I knew that fallen angels have no reprieve
I knew that sinners will never be saints
Good girls dream of being bad girls
And people say there's only one way to be.

And I passed through the forest
Into a valley and into the city
Saw the lying eyes
And the pretended happiness.

I saw those with smiles on their faces
And sorrow in their hearts
Those who lied for love
Those who were twisted and wrong.

I saw those with hate in their hearts
And fear in their eyes
And beyond it all I saw the light
I saw the light of perfection.

Always there yet impossible to reach
Full of expectations and hope
The feeling it'd all be all right
And the last destruction of innocence.

But this was the way it was meant to be
People lost and alone and terrified
Praying for their salvation
And calling out to be saved.

Death stalking the world
The darkness closing in
And those patches of gold
Which seem to light up
The whole entire universe.
